These did nothing for me. Ask your doctor about aphthasol, a prescription drug approved by the FDA — which means it’s passed rigorous government testing standards. Aphthasol changed my life.

I’ve only tried these once, and I plan to try again when I have a sore in a more easily accessible area, but last night I had a horrible experience with this product. My canker sore is large, on the inside of my lower lip where it curves, and the canker melt disc was too firm to bend around the area. I couldn’t get it to adhere, and when I tried to use my finger to hold it for a few minutes, it stuck to my finger, so when I took my finger out of my mouth, it felt like I was peeling a bandage off the sore. Ouch!
I decided to persevere, because I am at my breaking point with this sore, which is the largest and worst one I have ever had. I tried to use before I went to bed, and I slept with my arm across my face to hold my lip against my teeth, because otherwise the disc would slip out of place. When I woke up two hours later, the disc had glued the sore to my upper teeth, and glued my lips together on one side, so I had to swish water around and forcibly peel them apart, which was excruciating.
I ended up rinsing the area with hydrogen peroxide and going back to bed. When I woke up this morning, I saw no change. The sore is still painful, large and white, and swollen underneath with a red, painful throbbing border. Whatever effects this product might have had on my sore were far overshadowed by the pain of trying to unglue the area from my teeth and the frustration of trying to make it adhere.
All in all, I had a very bad experience with canker melts. I’m hopeful after reading the positive reviews that this product might work for me in the future, maybe on the inside of my cheek or something. If it does, I will update this review accordingly.

Very disappointing – putting the disc on my canker sore hurt like a #&^!*. I stuck it out for two minutes or so but when the initial pain didn’t fade I had to remove it. Still hurt for another few minutes afterward. Maybe the remedy works wonders; I’ll probably never know (unless I get desperate enough to try it again). I’ve had this problem my whole life so I should have known the claims were too good to be true.

Like many reviewers, I have suffered with canker sores since childhood. I was so hopeful that these canker melts would be the answer. The instructions say to keep a melt on the sore continually until it goes away. That is pretty much impossible. The discs are slimy, kind of chewy, don’t stick well and are a very visible dark brown color. I was not able to talk, much less eat or drink with a disc in my mouth. So, I could only use them at night while sleeping. I think they may have helped the pain and duration slightly. Instead of using these, I highly recommend getting the Rembrandt Canker Sore toothpaste and using Avamin Melts (a once a day melt that you leave in your mouth for 30 minutes, made by the same company as Cankermelts). That combination has almost completely eliminated my painful sores.

I get alot of canker sores from hormonal imbalances and stress. These disks have been great. You have to be sure and read instructions if you want it to work; you have to hold it in place for about a minute until it adheres and try not to eat or drink anything while it is melting. These significantly reduce the time it takes to heal and helps with the pain.
